If you’re planning a tour of Florence with the kids, the Florence Family tour’ app is a must! Discover unusual itineraries and curiosities to make your trip around the centre of Florence more simple and fun.

The app is aimed at children and early teens between the ages of 6/9 and 10/13, offering interactive information on historical figures and monuments in the city. It concentrates on two time periods in Florence: the city’s Roman past and its period under the rule of the Medici family. The app takes families through major monuments and places that pertain to the particular historical period, offering a tour of the city’s “open-air museums.”

The different itineraries have been conceived as explorations of the town; thus the stopping points become episodes of a story which is actually a journey, during which users are invited each time to play and interact. History, museums and monuments are told with your child in mind and the app will help you find how to reach, thank to interactive map with GPS. Geolocalize your position in real time and pick from the many point of interests closest to you, take a pic with your family and share it through the app!

The app, currently available on Italian and English versions, will be soon developed and potentiated with new itineraries and news languages.

What is Family Tour
Florence has created “Family Tour”, a new way of exploring for families with children. A kit and an app for smartphones and tablets for discovering the wonders of the old town by yourselves. The app is paired with a kit that can be picked up at information points at the Palazzo Vecchio and at the Istituto degli Innocenti. The kit contains maps, information and games to encourage kids to explore and navigate the city for themselves, with the help of their parents. Kits can be rented for free for up to three hours.A project of the Municipality of Florence developed by the Associazione Mus.e (Museum Association) and the Istituto degli Innocenti (old orphanage). Exceptional partners have participated in the proposal: besides the Region of Tuscany, which supported the project, the contribution of F.I.L.A. with its GIOTTO brand of colours and art equipment for children has been fundamental. The application was created by D’Uva Workshop (www.duvaws.com), a frontline producer of technology for the cultural heritage.
